We all get a toothache every once in a while, right? It’s just a normal part of life. While that may be true (your teeth can ache if you eat something far too cold, bump them, or bite down wrong on something hard) there are times when you shouldn’t ignore a toothache any longer.

We’re going to look at examples of those situations and why they merit an immediate visit to Dr. Gilbert Omido here at Gilbert Omido DDS, P.A. in Wichita, Kansas.

When it doesn’t go away

If you have a tooth that’s bothering you and the pain won’t go away then that’s a surefire sign that you need to come in and see our team right away. Persistent tooth pain is often the sign of a more serious underlying problem, such as a cavity, abscess, or other oral health dilemma. In all cases, you want to get them treated as quickly as possible.

Bleeding and instability

If the tooth that’s giving you pain bleeds at all, or feels loose while brushing, then that’s also a sign you need to see us immediately. Bleeding is usually a sign of infection (an abscess) while a loose tooth can be a sign of gum disease. Either problem can be seriously detrimental to your oral health if you’re not vigilant about treating it right away, and you don’t want to deal with the long-term effects of them.

If you have any other symptoms accompanying a toothache, call us today at 316-683-0440 so we can see you as soon as possible. The sooner we take a look at your tooth, the sooner we’ll be able to help.
